Reverse pyramid training, at its core, starts with the heaviest weights and the lowest reps across three sets. As you progress, you'll gradually decrease the weight by about 10 per cent while bumping up the reps for the second and third sets.

For standard pyramid training, start with a weight that's manageable for about 12 reps. Take a 60 to 90-second breather, and then power through the next three sets with 10, 8, and 6 reps.
